experiential learning team buildingWhat exactly is experiential learning? We have published many articles on team building in this blog. Today, we dedicate a few thoughts on one of our agency‘s domains of expertise: developing our clients’ talents through experiential learning.

Nowadays, it is not uncommon to be confronted with a number of problems in the workplace: bad communication, leadership crisis, lack of motivation, you name it. We have spent the best part of twenty years creating events and activities to help solve those workplace issues. We take productivity very seriously, and strongly believe in self-improvement and a healthy work environment… and we have come up with the perfect solution: a combination of events, motivational talks and experiential workshops.

The ‘Think Outside The Box’ methodology

Based on the principles of experiential learning, the ‘Think Outside The Box’ methodology is used to bring forward solutions to some of the most common problems found in the workplace. We bring forward the solutions thanks to a number of team building activities aimed at helping improve communication, imagination, and creativity. The TOTB methodology helps us learn about one another and improve team cohesion. The underlying idea is for participants to communicate their different points of views to the group, share their comments, and draw conclusions as a team.

How does TOTB work? We start off by dividing our participants into several groups and grouping them around a set number of tables: one table per group will do just fine for this activity. A supervisor is assigned to each table to help coordinate the group’s works, and a box is provided on each table. The box contains a unique challenge. All challenges are prepared in advance of the event in accordance with the client’s needs.

All challenges follow the main methods for experiential learning: creative, rational, emotional, or technology-based activities. When a group completes a challenge, members of the group are invited to write down their conclusions on a piece of paper and deposit it in the box before making their way to the next table where a new challenge awaits them. Surrounded and guided by a team of professional coaches, participants learn to communicate between themselves, discover their colleague’s points of views and ways of thinking, and much more.
